North Las Vegas is located northeast of Las Vegas in the Las Vegas Valley, inside the Mojave Desert. The city is part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area and is the third largest city in the state of Nevada. It was incorporated in 1946 and has a typical desert climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Traditionally, North Las Vegas's economy was sustained by manufacturing and warehouse distribution, but recently more high-tech companies and custom manufacturing facilities have been moving into the area. The city of North Las Vegas maintains 34 parks, two recreation centers, and three city libraries. There is also a YMCA recreation center within the city. Residents of North Las Vegas are served by the Clark County School District, which is the 5th largest school district in the nation. The Cheyenne Campus of College of Southern Nevada is the only higher education institution within the city, though the University of Las Vegas, Nevada has plans to open a branch within North Las Vegas.

Though most of North Las Vegas's domestic and international air travel goes through the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, the city also has the small North Las Vegas Airport that operates tours to the Grand Canyon. Bus service is in North Las Vegas is provided by RTC Transit, who provide transportation to the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The city is also served by three major highways, I-15, Clark County Highway 215, and Las Vegas Boulevard.
